IU police seek suspect in reported assault on campus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana University tweeted late Monday night that its police department was searching for a suspect in an assault reported on campus.

A female student was waiting at a bus stop near North Jordan Avenue and East Seventh Street, which is near the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center, Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center, and the Institute for International Business. The university said in a Facebook post that the man approached the female student from behind and grabbed her around the neck about 10:15 p.m. The female student screamed and struck the man with her elbows, drawing the attention of a passerby. The suspect then fled west on foot.

Police said at 11:40 p.m. that there was no longer any imminent threat, but asked people to be vigilant.

The suspect in the assault was described as a tall, thin man in his early 20s and wearing a blue hat.

People with information were asked to call 911.
