WASHINGTON (WJLA/CNN) — A man in a video seen without a shirt, striding down busy Route 28, is 32-year-old Jose Gonzalez Flores.
“I see a man walking between cars and I’m thinking there’s been an accident, and he needs help,” said Nina Johns, a witness.
Johns saw an accident all right, but that was only the beginning.
“We have a lot of calls coming in for what originated as a three-vehicle accident. There’s two males fighting in the roadway,” said a dispatcher over a police scanner.
Police say moments after ramming his pickup into two vehicles, Gonzalez Flores began punching one of the other drivers.
“He walks past my car punches my door with the side of his hand, and he’s got something else in his other hand,” said Johns.
That something else, was a cutting tool. But he doesn’t get back into his car.
“Instead he climbs over the barrier and gets undressed and comes back into traffic buck naked,” said Johns.
In his birthday suit, he jumped onto a moving flatbed and started hitting the cab with a cutting tool.
“One of the subjects now has no clothes on, and he is running against the guardrail. He’s banging on other vehicles,” said the dispatcher.
A chopper and canine search was on until he was found in a drainage ditch in some nearby woods.
“We’re not sure if he was having a medical emergency after the accident, or if possibly he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” said Officer Kent Bailey.
It was a commute that Johns won’t soon forget
“It was very frightening for everybody involved,” said Johns.
