Indiana Department of Child Services director to resign

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The director of the state’s Department of Child Services will resign later this month, the governor’s office announced Friday.

Mary Beth Bonaventura on Friday told Gov. Eric J. Holcomb that she will resign Dec. 27, the announcement said.

Holcomb issued this statement on Friday night:

“I am grateful to Director Bonaventura for her service at the Department of Child Services over the past five years. She has demonstrated unwavering commitment to keeping Hoosier children safe and has led this important state agency in the midst of a growing opioid epidemic that has impacted so many families.”

The announcement did not provide an explanation for the resignation.

A search for a new director has begun, according to the announcement.
