Indiana funeral home to offer beer, wine at services

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Hoosiers may still not be able to buy cold beer at gas stations, but they can crack open a cold one at a southern Indiana funeral home.

Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville is now offering alcohol to mourners.

It recently obtained a liquor license and started serving beer, wine and liquor at services.

It’s part of a growing trend spreading across the country.

People seem to be buying into the idea of booze at funerals – some even going as far to adjust their wills to ensure drinks are served after they die.

Those who support it say it gives a day centered around death more life.

“You’ve always heard people say, don’t cry for me. Don’t come in and do a somber funeral, celebrate my life, or throw a party for me, and so this is kind of our way to do it,” Aaron Scott, owner of Scott Funeral Home said

For families who have that relative who might drink a little too much, Scott says his employees will constantly be watching for just that.
