Church, schools team up to provide ‘Mittens and Toys for Girls and Boys’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Nearly 200 students and their parents celebrated an early Christmas on Sunday night.

It was part of North Central Church of Christ’s program, Mittens and Toys for Girls and Boys.

The church teams up with Washington Township Schools to help out kids and families in need.

They get their picture with Santa, decorate cookies, pick out some warm clothes and get a toy.

This year, the event also featured a sit-down dinner with church volunteers and other families.

“That intimacy really relishes the importance of partnerships, relationships, having families to walk alongside with other families to provide the resources needed. So many times we get so engaged and engrossed in providing monetary resources but that human capital is huge,” said Suzanne Zybert, from Washington Township Schools.

The church and the school district have been in partnership to help local students for about 15 years.
