Man shot, killed on east side; 150th homicide of year

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One man is dead following a shooting on the city’s east side Monday morning.

The shooting happened in the 5300 block of Butler Terrace just around 12:30 a.m.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the area for a report of a person shot.

After arriving on the scene, officers discovered a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  Responding emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead on scene.

The victim has since been identified as 25-year-old Walter Benyon. The Marion County Coroner’s Office said he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Suspect information has not been released.

The shooting is believed to be an isolated incident.

The Monday morning homicide is the 150th homicide of 2017, tying 2016’s record.
