12-year-old girl dies in Miami County crash

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A 12-year-old girl has died following a crash in Miami County Tuesday morning.

It happened around 8 a.m. when officials responded to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Broadway Street.

Upon arrival, officials determined a semi tractor collided with a 2003 Ford Explorer on the passenger side on the intersection after the semi did not stop for a red light.

After the impact, the Explorer spun into a Chevrolet Cruz that was waiting to turn eastbound onto U.S. 24.

Kristina Buffington was flown to the hospital with life threatening injuries. A passenger of the Explorer, 12-year-old Amanda Buffington died at the scene of the crash.

An 8 year old that was also in the Explorer suffered facial and head injuries but is in stable condition.

The driver of the Cruz, 43-year-old Jayson Hall, was also transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation, but it does not appear as if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
