Man faces multiple counts of attempted murder after firing at officers during narcotics warrant

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One man is facing serious charges after officials said he fired shots at officers during a drug bust.

The incident happened December 13 at a residence in the 2100 block of Spann Avenue when SWAT officials were serving a “no knock” narcotics warrant.

Upon entry, 39-year-old Christopher Johnson began shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire, strikingg Johnson multiple times.

One of the officers was struck in the arm and had to be transported to the hospital. He was later released.

Johnson and four other people that were in the home, two of which were juveniles, at the time were later placed in custody. The four face charges of visiting a common nuisance.

The Marion County Forensic Service Agency recovered four firearms, large amounts of suspected narcotics and cash from the home, IMPD said.

Johnson faces five counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

A mugshot of Johnson has not yet been made available as he was transported to the hospital following the incident.

He is listed as being in critical but stable condition.
