Man stabs his boyfriend 10 times, gets shot by police
AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) – A man who police say was stabbed approximately 10 times by his boyfriend lay in his own blood for more than five hours before police were notified of the crime.
According to an arrest affidavit, on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 10:36 a.m., Quinton Anthony Wiles, 59, called 911 stating “some man is saying I have a gun and I’m going to use.” Another unidentified caller stated they believe Wiles “may be suicidal.”
When an Austin police officer arrived at the home in the 4000 block of Greenhill Place in west Austin, he saw Wiles with a knife in his hand walking towards him. Police Chief Brian Manley said Officer Jason Canales ordered Wiles multiple times to drop the weapon, but he refused and kept making threatening movements toward the officer. That’s when the officer shot Wiles.
When officers got inside the home, they found the victim, who said, “I’m stabbed… Quinton did it,” according to the affidavit. The victim told police he and Wiles had dated for 15 years and they lived together.
The victim, 69, said around 5 a.m. that day, he was in bed when Wiles sat on the edge of the bed and told him “he was sorry that all of the money is gone, and that on Tuesday things are going to get bad.” Then “without warning” the victim said Wiles started stabbing him in the torso. The victim said he tried to get away but Wiles caught up to him and stabbed him with a bigger knife, continued the affidavit.
The victim thought he was going to die as Wiles “left him there” for more than five hours. The victim sustained injuries that required nearly two hours of surgery. Detectives believe the victim would have likely died if police hadn’t made it there when they did.
Wiles was treated for his wounds and is currently in the Travis County Jail on a $1 million bond.
