Police investigating robbery in downtown parking garage

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman is recovering after being robbed and injured in a downtown parking garage.

It happened around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Pan Am Parking Garage on Capitol Avenue.

The woman told police she parked her car, and was waiting for the elevator when a man came up with a knife and robbed her.

According to the police report, the man got away with several of the woman’s items. She had to be treated on scene for a severe cut.

The woman was only able to provide a vague description of the suspect. She told police he ran away after getting her things.

A spokesperson for the company that owns the garage said they are taking immediate action to prevent something like this from happening again. They’ve hired a walking security guard to patrol the garage 24/7 for the time being.

People downtown said they take precautions to protect themselves.

“I have a pepper spray with me and there is an alarm on it too, so if anything happens then me, this being my first time living on my own, my mom said always know your surroundings and don’t have

your headphones in when you’re walking because that is the quickest way for somebody to come up behind you,” said one woman.

“I just watch, keep a close eye on what is happening around me. If you see somebody, don’t get out of your car, but apparently it was too late for her. It is scary,” said another woman who frequently uses parking garages.
