Silver Alert canceled after discovery of body in Greene County lake

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO) — Crews have recovered a vehicle from the lake in the Greene-Sullivan State Forest after working both today and yesterday to get it out.

On Monday December 18th at 2:30, Indiana Conservation Officers observed what appeared to be evidence of a vehicle entering Richards Lake at the Greene-Sullivan-State Forest.

Indiana Conservation Officers utilized Side Scan Sonar and SCUBA divers to determine a vehicle was in fact in the water.

The search ended at approximately 8:00 P.M. and resumed early Tuesday morning.

Due to the rocky underwater high wall and the vehicle depth of 55 feet, the extraction was dangerous and technical in nature.

At approximately 3:00 P.M., a recovery was made on the vehicle belonging to the subject of a recent Silver Alert, Robert G. Waters, 85, of Linton.

The body of Waters was recovered by ICO divers.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Dept. is investigating the death and an autopsy is scheduled for December 20th, 2017.
