ISP identifies driver in wrong-way crash as 24-year-old Indy woman

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – Authorities responded to a crash on I-465 near US 31 on the north side Thursday morning.

Crews responded to the area around 5:30 a.m for a head-on collision between a white Nissan Sentra and a semi tractor-trailer.

According to the Indiana State Police, the Nissan Sentra was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes at the time of the collision.

After arriving on scene, officers discovered the Sentra had sustained extensive front end damage.

ISP says the driver of the Sentra was killed in the crash. The driver of the semi did sustain minor injuries, while a passenger in the semi was unharmed.

The deceased driver has been identified as 24-year-old Milca Alvarado Polanco of Indianapolis.

The driver of the semi received minor injuries. Another person in the semi was not injured.

The road re-opened just before 10 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
