Henderson, IUPUI break 5-game skid, edge Cleveland State 78-73

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – T.J. Henderson only missed twice all night, scoring 19 points as IUPUI halted a five-game slide by holding off Cleveland State 78-73 Thursday night.

Henderson was 5 of 7 from the field and made all nine of his free throws, including a final pair with eight seconds remaining as the Jaguars held on. Cleveland State had steadily whittled a 30-point IUPUI lead down to 73-71 with 25 seconds left to play.

Aaron Brennan scored 17 points for IUPUI (8-16, 5-8 Horizon League) and Jaylen Minnett added 10. The Jaguars shot 59 percent (26 of 44) and made 23 of 35 free throws.

Stefan Kenic led Cleveland State (6-20, 3-10) with 16 points, Tyree Appleby added 15 and Kenny Carpenter 13.

IUPUI took the lead with 12 minutes left in the first half when Minnett hit a 3, and ended the half leading 33-23. The Jaguars doubled that to 20 points on an Elyjah Goss dunk with 12 minutes left in the game.

The Vikings went on a 19-9 tear, slicing the lead to eight points and then outscored IUPUI 13-6 to get within two.
