Kelly says he regrets incident involving pushing assistant

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says he regrets his confrontation with an assistant strength coach along the sideline during a 24-20 victory at Temple.

Kelly said Tuesday that he and assistant David Grimes met about the incident and “we’ve moved past it.” Kelly described Grimes as a valuable employee he expects to be with the school for a long time.

Kelly grabbed and shoved Grimes during the game. Kell says he reacted because some “unacceptable” things were going on along the sideline and he was worried the Irish might be penalized. Kelly said unspecified changes have been taken to make sure Notre Dame will “have a better sideline situation.”

Grimes was a Notre Dame wide receiver 2005-08 and has been an assistant strength coach since 2012.
