Severe weather threat Sunday

An active day potentially on tap across central Indiana, as strong storms are anticipated to roll through the state later this afternoon and evening.  Much of central Indiana is under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather.  All modes of severe weather will be in play today, with large hail being the primary threat this afternoon, and gusty winds the threat this evening.

Flooding will also be a concern.  A flash flood watch is in effect for most of central Indiana until 4:00 AM, Monday.TIMING:

Spotty showers and storms will continue to push through the area this morning – this activity should stay below severe limits.  Also watch for some patchy dense fog to be around for the early to mid morning hours.

We believe that the severe weather threat will begin to ramp up by the early to middle portions of the afternoon – coming in the form of a few isolated, discreet cells.  Large hail will be the primary severe weather threat with these rogue storms, but there will be enough spin in the atmosphere to potentially produced a few tornadoes.  These severe weather threat will continue for much of the afternoon hours.

By this evening, we should see a line of storms racing in from Illinois.  While there can be a few isolated spin ups of tornadoes in these lines, damaging straight line winds will be the main threat for this second wave of potentially severe storms.  This should arrive near dinner time, and be completely gone from our area by Midnight.

Along with the severe weather threat, there is potential for some very heavy rain – as was previously mentioned with the Flash Flood Watch.  Some areas could exceed 2″-3″ in a short amount of time.

High temperatures will top out in the middle 70s this afternoon.
