A cold and wintry eight days of weather ahead

We saw isolated snow showers push through early today which sent snow flurries flying and even dusting some neighborhoods along the way, but better accumulating snow chances will move our way this weekend.

With clearing skies this evening and into the overnight in combination with a northwest wind, temps are going to sink like a rock. We’ll drop into the mid teens by daybreak.

If that wasn’t bad enough, with a bit of a breeze, it will feel like the single digits in some portions of northern Indiana Friday morning, so keep your big coats handy!

After a frigid start to Friday, highs will rebound a bit through the afternoon with a peak in the low to mid 30s by 2-4 p.m. Expect increasing clouds late tomorrow evening and soon after… our first real accumulating snow chance of the season.

We’ll see isolated snow showers, mostly in northern Indiana, by late Friday night with better chances for snow here in the Indy Metro by the early morning hours Saturday.

By late Saturday morning, we’ll see more of a mix of sun and clouds, but a few lingering snow showers are possible. Total accumulation will be between a dusting to 1″ for most with some areas (mostly farther north) seeing 2″ or more.

Far northern Indiana is under a Winter Storm WATCH with lake effect bands pushing totals in some areas up to 1 foot, though that will not affect us here unless you’re planning on travelling towards Lake Michigan this weekend.

We’ll calm down for a bit late Saturday and most of Sunday with a few, lingering snow showers, providing little to no additional accumulation. Our next best chance for more snow will arrive early next week, Monday and Tuesday.

We will see a brief warm-up with that system with highs in the upper 30s Monday afternoon, but more cold, arctic air will push in to reinforce the existing arctic blast by the middle to the end of next week with highs next Friday only reaching the low 20s.
