Brad Maushart joined the WISH-8 Weather Team in January of 2017. You can catch him on-air Wednesday through Sunday evenings.
Brad was born right here in Indianapolis but grew up in Guilford, Indiana, just west of Cincinnati. He is a proud graduate of Ball State University and is also a former Charlie Cardinal (#ChirpChirp!). Brad earned a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and Climatology and a minor in Emergency Management and Homeland Security in 2012. Through college, Brad was a co-owner of a storm chasing company that provided footage of severe storms, tornadoes and hurricanes to several Midwest television stations, CNN and other national television outlets. In 2011, he intercepted Hurricane Irene in Beaufort, North Carolina. He has forecasted chased several major severe weather outbreaks and he has chased storms in nearly every state east of the Rockies.
After graduating, Brad accepted a chief meteorologist position in one of the most beautiful markets in the country … Anchorage, Alaska. He forecasted anything and everything from volcanic ash plumes to Jökulhlaups to the Aurora Borealis, and of course, plenty of winter weather. However, one (very, very, very long) winter was enough and Brad decided to move back to the Lower 48 to once again pursue his passion: severe weather!
He spent three years in the Deep South, never quite acclimating completely to the tropical heat and humidity. He regularly manned the Mobile Weather Lab, a suped-up Chevy Tahoe that he used to chase severe and tornadic storms throughout the Magnolia State. After several years down south, an opportunity came knocking and it was time for Brad to return home.
He spent the past several months with WCPO in Cincinnati to fill-in for another meteorologist who was absent on maternity leave. After a short stint in his hometown, another door opened in Indianapolis, an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
Brad is an avid Cincinnati sports fan, though it will likely take several years off his life. He roots for the Bengals, Reds, Cyclones, FC Cincinnati and the Pacers, though he’s not opposed to cheering for the blue and white as well. You’ll probably also be able to spot him in Muncie occasionally, cheering on his Cardinals. He dabbles in photography and enjoys exploring all that the Hoosier State and the Circle City have to offer. You might spot him at a local game, a craft brewery/eatery or even skiing in the winter months when he’s not working.
