Eric Halvorson

Eric is a lead anchor for WISH-TV’s 24-Hour News 8. He can be seen at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eric claims a rare achievement in the world of television news. He has enjoyed spending his entire career in Indianapolis. He started as a reporter/photographer at WTTV while a student at Butler University. He joined WISH-TV as a reporter in 1983. Then, he worked his way up. Anchoring on weekends. Anchoring on the Daybreak show, the Noon News and 24 Hour News 8 at 5 o’clock. In 2004, WISH-TV teamed him with Debby Knox for the evening newscasts of 24 Hour News 8. For several of those years, he was named central Indiana’s “Favorite Male Anchor.”

While he is a successful anchor, Eric is an equally talented reporter. He has earned a variety of prestigious honors for his work. For example, Eric has won Emmy awards. But, he is just as proud that the Indiana Press Photographers Association once gave him a 1st Place award for his work as a reporter and photographer aboard Chopper 8.

Eric was born in France. He is a graduate of Lawrence Central High School and Butler University. He earned Bachelors degrees in Radio/TV and Political Science. Eric continued his education at Butler, accepting a Masters degree in History and Political Science.

Eric is on the Advisory Board of Salvation Army’s Indiana Division. But, as a result of his dedication to the community, he can often be seen as a participant or volunteer at a variety of community events — from the Mini-Marathon in the spring to CarmelFest in the summer and the Circle City Classic Parade in the fall.

Eric and his wife have one son and a daughter-in-law. The younger Halvorsons made Eric a grandpa, this year.
