Julia Deng joined the 24-Hour News 8 team in June 2017 after covering more than 10 counties across West Texas as a general assignment and investigative reporter at KWES.
Her passion for telling action-inspiring, change-sparking stories has also taken her to newsrooms in South Africa and California. Julia interned at Cape Town TV News, Dateline NBC, NBC Bay Area and the CBS Los Angeles Investigative Unit during college. She worked as part of the NBC Nightly News team in Burbank during her junior and senior years, contributing to the weekday and weekend newscasts, NBCNews.com and various Today Show and NBC Latino stories. Her fluency in Mandarin made her an essential part of the news team during NBC’s coverage of the Asiana Airlines crash in 2013.
Julia graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with majors in Political Science and Journalism. She is a proud alum, and former Executive Producer, of USC’s award-winning student news operation, Annenberg TV News.
A native of New York, she is thrilled to call Indianapolis home, where Hoosier hospitality puts a smile on her face daily. She looks forward to telling stories that make a positive and meaningful difference throughout Central Indiana!
