Robb Ellis is the weekday evening meteorologist for WISH-TV’s Forecast 8. He traded the heat, humidity and hurricanes of the Carolina coastline for the larger variety of weather that central Indiana has to offer. From snow to severe storms, every type of weather brings out his passion for the science.
Robb moved from the North Carolina coast where he led the weather team at WECT and WSFX in Wilmington. There, his extensive experience in severe weather coverage spanned tropical systems and hurricanes, including Irene and Sandy, to frequent thunderstorms and tornados. On April 16, 2011 he covered the largest tornado outbreak in North Carolina history, followed just two weeks later on April 28, 2011 by the largest tornado outbreak in U.S. history. His tornado and winter weather experience was further honed during his years forecasting at WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina.
For his outstanding weather coverage, Robb was awarded “Weathercaster of the Year” in 2012 by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas, a title he’s previously held.
Prior to television, Robb spent seven years as a scientist and researcher working with climate data at the State Climate Offices of North and South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from North Carolina State University.
Robb also completed a portion of his undergraduate degree at the University of South Carolina and received broadcast training at the University of North Carolina.
Robb grew up in the sweltering heat and humidity of Columbia, South Carolina. As a young boy, the hurricanes that stormed through his state lit the spark which inspired him to become a meteorologist.
Whenever possible, Robb is outdoors biking, hiking or camping. He also enjoys live music, especially local talent.
