24-year-old guilty of murder in 2017 shooting death of 28-year-old

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 24-year-old man has been found guilty of an April 2017 murder, Marion County prosecutors said Friday.

Dion Johnson, whose address is an Indianapolis post office box, was found guilty on Thursday morning of murder and a handgun violation in the shooting death of 28-year-old Terrance Hill. The jury trial lasted two days.

Just before 7:30 a.m. April 7, 2017, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers went to the 4200 block of Lake Park Boulevard where they found Hill with five gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 in Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division 6.

The prosecutor’s office said in a news release, “According to witnesses, Hill and a group of friends met a man known as ‘Sane,’ at a gas station earlier that day. ‘Sane’ then followed the group back to the apartment in 4200 block of Lake Park Boulevard. ‘Sane’ was later identified through his Facebook account as Dion Johnson. At some point in the evening, Johnson became unruly towards Hill. Johnson followed Hill into the bedroom and told everyone else to leave the room. It was at this time witnesses heard multiple gunshots coming from inside the bedroom. Johnson then fled the scene.”

Johnson on April 21, 2017, turned himself into authorities, who had been searching for him.
