Man arrested for theft of two loads of soybeans

RANDOLPH COUNTY (Ind) –Randolph County deputies on Friday arrested 55 year old David W Patterson of Modoc, Indiana on multiple felonies stemming from the alleged thefts of tractor trailers full of soybeans.

Deputies tell WISH TV that Patterson in June of stole a semi tractor trailer loaded with soybeans from a Randolph County Farmer and in September he stole another trailer from a Randolph County business. That big rig was also loaded with soybeans.

Surveillance video from the second theft linked a connection to the first theft due to the stolen semi tractor.  Patterson was found to have sold all the soybeans within days of each theft and pocketed approximately $17,000 from the sale.  Deputies add that evidence and witness testimony connected Patterson to both thefts.  The second trailer has been recovered, however the first tractor and trailer are still missing and deputies say that Patterson refused to give the whereabouts of the stolen property.

The stolen tractor and trailer are believed to be in the Randolph County or Henry County area and deputies ask that anyone with information on there whereabouts should contact Randolph County Investigators at 765-584-3709 Ext 241.
