Pedestrian struck by semi, killed on I-70 in Hendricks County

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person is dead after being hit by a semi on I-70 in Hendricks County.

According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, a pedestrian was hit and killed while walking on I-70 EB near State Road 39.

The fatal crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Deputies say 68-year-old David Scully was on I-70 headed home from work when he noticed a stranded motorist in the westbound lanes of I-70. Scully then left the interstate, going onto State Road 39, then went to check back on the stranded motorists and parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the exit ramp.

Then, according to deputies, Scully went back across the exit ramp after a conversation with the motorists when he was struck by an eastbound semi.

Scully was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the semi did remain on scene and has been cooperating with deputies.

All eastbound lanes were shut down for two hours for investigation and cleanup of the scene.
