SUV crashes through fence into west side pool

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An SUV crashed through a west side condominium complex Sunday afternoon, breaking through a fence and landing in the complex’s pool.

Emergency responders, including divers, responded to the incident around 3:15 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel Ridge Condominiums near the intersection of West 10th Street and Country Club Road.

A man driving a Chevy Tahoe drove the opposite way he had intended and crashed into 6-8 feet of water in the deep end of the pool, according to Wayne Township Fire Capt. Todd Taylor.

Two people who live at the complex dove in to try to save him.The driver was got out safely, and no one was hurt.

The driver turned down treatment at the scene, Taylor said.

With water and air temperatures in the low 40s, it took a little longer than usual for divers to get the SUV out, Taylor said.

The crash caused damage to the pool, the pool deck and the fence.
