Racial slur left on Richmond home
RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State Police are investigating the painting of a racist message left on a Richmond home, and the burning of a car that illuminated the message.
The message, which included a slur usually directed at African-Americans, was discovered early Tuesday when authorities responded to a burning vehicle.
Richmond Police Chief Kris Wolski said his department turned over the investigation to state police because of its expertise in crimes possibly motivated by race. Wolski also noted any evidence collected from the burned vehicle would be sent to state police labs for processing.
State police spokesman Sgt. John Bowling says the incident appears to be an isolated act and “does not pose a threat to public safety.”
Richmond Common Councilwoman Kelley Cruse-Nicholson says he is angry and saddened by the incident.
