17 from Ball State take spring break trip to Cuba

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – Ball State University says a group of students and faculty members are spending spring break in Cuba.

The Star Press reports that 14 students and three faculty members traveled to Cuba as part of a journalism project. They will take advantage of the United States’ restored diplomatic relationship with the country. The group left Sunday and will return Monday.

The students will be writing stories, taking video and photos for a website project. The goal is to provide information for future visitors to Cuba.

Chemistry student Jonathan Miksanek says the trip will be one of the last opportunities to “see Cuba as it is and was.” He says the Indiana students want to see Cuba “before it disappears in the luxuries of modernity.”
