Woman burned alive expected to recover
FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — Amy Keever is fighting for her life at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, after she was doused with gasoline then lit on fire by her estranged husband, police say. But close friends say, they’re optimistic Keever will make a full recovery.
“As of this morning she was doing some skin grafting surgery and doing very well. Her stats are amazing. She still is intubated and kind of in a coma state that they’re keeping her in,” said family friend Angel Dillahay.
Dillahay is in constant communication with the family. Her brother is Keever’s live-in boyfriend. Dillahay says a recovery is on the horizon.
“She’s doing great. They’re thinking a few months in the unit, but she is definitely going to pull through,” said Dillahay.
In the meantime, Dillahay has opened her home to Keever’s two youngest children; 11-year-old Cody and 10-year-old Peyton. The kids are now without a father, and for now, a mother.
Police believe their father, Donn Keever left the scene after setting his wife on fire, and drove the wrong direction on I-65, causing a crash that took his life. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office have not confirmed the identity of the victim in that crash.
“They don’t really say a lot. The youngest, Peyton does occasionally. She get a little upset. They really want to see Amy, but they can’t,” said Dillahay.
Dillahay said the kids witnessed their father setting their mother on fire. From here, she is trying to shield the kids as much as possible.
“They found some kittens I had. I was going to find homes for them but I promised I’d wait,” said Dillahay.
Dillahay says the family is receiving an outpouring of support from the community.
“Peyton has said, ‘so many people have told me they love me and I’ve never met them.’ And it makes her feel good. It confuses her, but she feels loved and that’s all we’re asking,” said Dillahay.
Dillahay is taking time away from work to help with the Keever kids. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help raise money to help cover expenses.
