Motorcyclist thrown from bike, dies in SR 37 crash

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police say a motorcyclist died in a crash on Thursday in the Center Grove area.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 4 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Smith Valley Road and State Road 37.

Police believe the motorcyclist, 47-year-old Shawn Cothron, was traveling south on SR 37 and lost control. According to a release from the department, the motorcyclist was ejected and died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that the motorcyclist sideswiped two or three vehicles before he hit another vehicle and landed on top of the car in a turn lane.

It was not clear what caused the motorcyclist to lose control.
