Avon Town Council rejects 270-apartment plan at Satori Pointe
AVON, Ind. (WISH) — The town council in Avon has rejected a plan to build 270 new apartments.
The apartments would have gone up at Satori Pointe off of Rockville Road.
The council voted at its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday night. It was a unanimous decision, with the exception of Councilman Greg Zusan, who recused himself from the vote and council chambers during discussion. Council members said the decision does not mean apartments will not be built in the future, but the community did not like the idea of the apartments without any retail space.
People in Avon had also said they were concerned the apartments would bring more students into Avon Community School Corporation without tax money to support those students. Satori Pointe is a TIF district set up to support the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, which means tax money does not pass through to entities like the schools and libraries.
The original plan for the land is to build about 160 apartments with 60-thousand square feet of retail space. The developer’s plan rejected Thursday would have included 270 high-end apartments without any retail space.
