Arrests made after two Purdue students shot with pellet gun
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Two Purdue University students were injured by shots from a pellet gun early Tuesday morning. Now, two Frankfort men are under arrest for allegedly shooting both students in the chest.
Purdue police said around 1:30 a.m., a student was walking south on Grant Street between State and Wood streets when he was struck by a pellet in his chest.
A second student reported to Purdue police he was riding his bike home around 3 a.m. near Grant and Wood streets when he was struck in the chest.
A short while later, police stopped a vehicle leaving the Wood Street Parking Garage.
Officers found 20-year-old Christopher Smith and 18-year-old Austin Smith, both of Frankfort, as well as a pellet gun with a scope. A third man, who was unnamed in a release, was also in the vehicle.
The Smiths were taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail and being held on $10,000 surety bonds. They face preliminary charges of aggravated battery and attempted criminal recklessness.
Both victims were treated at local hospitals.
