Hometown to honor Olympic gold medal swimmer Lilly King

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Olympic swimming gold medalist Lilly King’s Indiana hometown plans a celebration for her later this month.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke on Tuesday said the 19-year-old will meet with children Sept. 24 to talk about aspirations and using hard work to meet goals. She’ll then ride a fire truck to Bosse Field, where she will lead a yoga class. She’ll also receive a key to the city. The event is free and open to the public.

King won two gold medals at the recent Summer Olympics in the 100-meter breaststroke and on the 400 medley relay team. She is a graduate of Evansville’s Reitz High School.

King also is scheduled to be grand marshal of the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival parade Oct. 8.
