Indiana Toyota plant marks 25th anniversary

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – The Toyota plant in Columbus is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

A special celebration Thursday marked the 500,000th truck built at the plant, which has more than 1,500 employees. The company says most forklifts in the U.S. are made in Columbus – 40,000 a year.

A few weeks ago, Toyota announced it would expand the plant. The automaker says it will invest $16 million in the expansion, which is scheduled to be finished in September.

The addition will increase the total facility to more than 1 million square feet of manufacturing and support space.

Gov. Mike Pence spoke at Thursday’s event.
