Freetown Village Embarks on Time Hopping Musical Journey in Honor of Black History Month

A big month of celebration continues on Indy Style with Ophelia Wellington, founding director of Freetown Village, along with Sandy Lomax, International Recording Artist and Freetown Village Performer. In honor of Black History Month, Freetown Village is embarking on a time-hopping musical journey!

Here is further information about the celebration:

The incomparable Louis Armstrong once said that jazz music cannot be explained, it must be felt. It is in this scatting, be bopping improvisational tradition of the past that Freetown Village presents their second annual production of A Musical Journey. A Musical Journey happens on Saturday February 27, 2016 at the historic Madame Walker Theatre Center Ballroom. Guests will be taken on a musical journey down memory lane, featuring the legendary tunes of jazz greats from the Circle City, NYC, and everywhere in between. Scheduled to join the Freetown Village Singers that evening, are national recording artist Bashiri Asad, European recording artist Sandy Lomax, and gospel musician Minister Stanley Daniels. The evening will also include tributes from the descendants of local jazz artists, Pookie Johnson, Lancaster Price, and Al Richardson.

Come experience the incredible and timeless songs of empowerment and perseverance in a journey of music during this unique Black History Month event. Dinner and celebration of songs starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Walker Ballroom, 617 Indiana Avenue. Early bird tickets are available for $35.00 until February 6. Regular priced tickets will be $45.00. Each ticket includes a buffet dinner provided by Grant’s Catering. An Evening Dinner with the Freetown Village Singers: A Musical Journey
