Man with Parkinson’s shows us how art as therapy

Ahead of Parkinson’s Awareness Month in April, Wendell Lowe shares his story about dealing with the disease and how he copes with it.

Wendell was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009, and three weeks later, right when he was starting to comprehend the Parkinson’s, another bomb dropped in his lap: he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer.

After a major operation and six months of chemo, his cancer remains in the past and is able to continue to work on my Parkinson’s and his fine art!

Wendell’s Rock Steady Boxing work outs help to keep him active and moving forward. His artwork has been much-needed therapy and helps him through those sleepless nights.

Wendell said, “No matter what happens in the future, I’ll never give up and stop boxing or my art. I’ll continue to adapt as my Parkinson’s progresses.”

Wendell has an upcoming solo art show benefiting Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s, titled, “Wendell Lowe-Artist Boxer-This is my Parkinson’s.”

WHEN: Friday, April 7th from 6-10 p.m.

WHERE: The Indiana Landmark Center Rapp Family Gallery

1201 Central Ave.

A large percentage of the proceeds will go to Rock Steady Boxing.
