Food maker to build $310M facility in Shelbyville
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A plant-based protein food maker on Monday announced a $310 million facility will open in late 2020.
Greenleaf Foods said the 230,000-squre-foot development on 57 acres will create 470 jobs.
A news release from the Shelby County Development Corp. said the facility will be located east of Interstate 74 and south of State Road 44. The property was acquired by the city of Shelbyville and Shelby County officials from First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville in December.
Greenleft products, according to a news release, include the Lightlife Burger and Italian and bratwurst sausage. They are part of a pea protein-based line, along with other products from the Lightlife and Field Roast Grain Meat Co. brands, that will be made at the new facility.
