IMPD: Suspect arrested for 11 gas station heists
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man wanted for 11 Speedway gas station robberies on the north side has been arrested, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
“We’re thankful there were no injuries in any of these incidents, and it speaks to the tenacity of our officers who did an excellent job at receiving the information from the community about the suspect’s vehicle,” IMPD Sergeant Kendale Adams said.
Police said on April 27, 22-year-old Donnell Gilder Jr. robbed a Speedway gas station located in the 5900 block of East 71st Street while armed with a hand gun.
Police said during the robbery, Gilder shot at the clerk, then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle that was left unattended near the gas station. Police said the clerk wasn’t injured.
Shortly after, Gilder was apprehended after police chased him in his vehicle and on foot.
“I think a lot of times unfortunately, when you get into a crime level in an area like this it’s almost a chain reaction and an overall problem to deal with,” Customer Brandon Stone said.
Police questioned Gilder and arrested him for 11 area Speedway gas station robberies.
Gilder will face federal charges in addition to state charges.
State charges include:
- Attempted murder
- Auto theft
- Carrying a handgun without a license
- Resisting law enforcement
