Indy PopCon sees attendance boost this year
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The second annual PopCon is underway at the Indiana Convention Center, where you can find many people dressed as their favorite character from all genres of pop culture.
Lindsay Miller said, “I am doing a gender bend of Kido from Vocaloid. I’m his little cousin, Kiko.”
Jessica Speidel of Minneapolis, Minn., said, “I am Toothless. I also have some glowing lights on the back. It’s from How to Train Your Dragon 2.”
This is the second annual PopCon and it’s filled with some people who attended last year’s event and others who are experiencing Indy’s PopCon for the first time, all of whom said they are impressed with what is offered.
Chris Mather, of Frankfort, Ill., said, “All of the vendor booths and the artist booths are pretty well diversified. It feels like everybody is pretty happy, like everybody is getting their piece of the pie.”
When it comes to attendance, organizers said there is definitely a bigger turnout for the 2015 PopCon compared to last year.
Carl Doninger, president of PopCon, said, “It’s night and day. We started from literally nothing, from the ground up… word of mouth marketing.”
James Cecil, with the Indiana Cosplay Association, said, “The cosplay community that we have around here is extremely strong. A lot more people are starting to get involved.”
PopCon continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizers said they are already making plans for the 2016 PopCon.
