Police arrest three after Lawrence armed robbery
LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – Three people are in jail after an armed robbery at a Village Pantry store in Lawrence late Sunday night.
The suspects have only been charged for the Lawrence robbery, but police believe they were involved in a separate robbery at the BP gas station near Brookville and South Post Road.
Security video shows two people with bandanas over their faces barge into the BP at 11:06 p.m. Sunday. They pointed guns at a cashier who gave them hundreds of dollars.
The cashier refused to open the door to let them behind the counter, according to store manager Gurpeet Singh. The suspects each fired once before running away, but the shots were blocked by bulletproof glass.
Singh said if it weren’t for the glass, the cashier would be dead.
“He’s okay right now. Last night, he was here. He was scared. Crying and stuff,” Singh said. “He said he may quit because what happened here never happened to him.”
Just before midnight, police said they caught two people robbing the Village Pantry on North Franklin Road. Detectives said the suspects wore bandanas over their faces. Officers found two loaded handguns, one of which was reported stolen to IMPD last year.
Officers found the clerks hiding in a back office, shaken but unharmed.
Police also arrested a third suspect who detectives believe was driving a getaway car registered to one of the suspects’ family members.
