Power outages reported as winds gust up to 45 mph
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Power & Light and Duke Energy are reporting power outages as winds are gusting across central Indiana.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Sustained southwest winds from 25-30 mph and gusts near 45 mph can blow around loose objects and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles. The winds arrived ahead of a few thunderstorms expected Wednesday night.
This afternoon, Duke reported scattered outages across central Indiana, with one of the largest affecting about 750 customers in the Westfield area, including Grand Park.
Early Wednesday afternoon, IPL sent a tweet about outages affecting 1,100 customers on the city’s northwest side due to high winds.
Earlier, on Wednesday morning, a tree and wire downed in the Speedway area caused an outage to 2,000 customers in the area around U.S. Highway 136 between Country Club Road and Girls School Road, IPL said in a tweet. The Speedway Police Department tweeted that the outage affected traffic lights at some intersections.
