Shelbyville school administrators camp on roof to benefit student with leukemia
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Five Shelbyville Middle School administrators will be camping out on the school roof for at least 33 hours starting Wednesday morning to help a student recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
The five agreed to spend an hour on the roof for every $100 raised. So far they are at $3,300.
All of the money raised will go to student Kory Stewart to help with medical bills.
“In Shelbyville, everybody comes to help each other, so it really has not been surprising at all,” Shelbyville Middle School athletic director Mark Evans said.
The five will start camping at 7 a.m. In addition, the school will be holding a Kory Strong Day and is encouraging students to wear orange or Kory Strong shirts. The school started off selling 80 T-shirts and have had requests for more than 300. All of the proceeds from the T-shirt sales will go to the Stewart family.
“It’s going to be exciting to see the orange everywhere as they come into the school from the buses and everybody just showing their support for Kory,” said Shelbyville Middle School principal Ryan Mikus.
Donations can be sent to Shelbyville Middle School at 1200 W McKay Road in Shelbyville, IN 46176.
