3 men charged with grave robbing near Evansville

BOONVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Three men have been charged with grave robbing after allegedly stealing bones and causing damage at a Boonville cemetery.

Nicholas Kinder of Evansville, Damon Busing and Ryan Casey, both of Boonville, were charged last month with abuse of a corpse and cemetery mischief. They’re accused of causing about $450 in damage after stealing the skull and some bones from a crypt and knocking the top off of a tombstone at Maple Grove Cemetery in early December.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports a Boonville police officer acted on a tip that Busing was involved with the cemetery vandalism.

According to police, the 18-year-old admitted he and his friends visited the grave of Casey’s grandmother on Dec. 8, but he denied damaging the grave sites. Police say Kinder told them that Busing stole human remains from a casket.

All three men have pleaded not guilty.
