Police: Repeat offender chased down, arrested

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police chased a suspect Tuesday evening who was found to be facing multiple charges from a previous arrest on Jan. 21, 2015.

At approximately 9:17 p.m., Indiana State Police pulled over a red 1989 Cadillac that they believed to be stolen.

Police discovered the driver of the Cadillac was Randal D. Utterback, 57, of Terre Haute, was driving without a valid driver’s license, no vehicle registration or ownership paperwork and an open container of alcohol in the passenger compartment.

Utterback reportedly refused to get out of the car when requested, and instead drove away.

His car quickly became lodged in a snow drift, so Utterback left the car and ran away towards I-70. Police were able to catch up to Utterback after a brief foot pursuit.

After a short investigation, Utterback was found to be carrying $3,215 and other possible drug-related documents.

He was also found to have an arrest record from Jan. 21, when he was found to be carrying $4,388 in cash, about 4.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 7.5 grams of suspected marijuana, syringe and other drug paraphanalia.

Utterback was taken to Vigo County Jail Tuesday evening where he is in custody, facing preliminary charges of habitual traffic violator, resisting law enforcement – use of a vehicle and theft.
