Police: Syracuse shooting suspect now in custody

SYRACUSE Ind. (WANE) – The man believed to be responsible for a double shooting in Syracuse early Thursday morning that left one person dead and another person injured has been captured.

Police released a photograph of the suspect, Brandon T. Woody, 22, shortly after the shootings and described him as being armed and dangerous. A news release issued by the Syracuse Police Department announcing his capture did not specify how authorities captured Woody, who is facing charges of murder and attempted murder. The release indicated more information would be released later.

According to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sergeant Chad Hill, Syracuse police responded to a shooting at 205 East Main Street around 12:30 a.m.

Nineteen-year-old Joshua Randall Knisley was found dead and Tara Lynn Thornburg was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Both were shot in the head. Police told WSBT-TV that Thornburg and Knisley were in a relationship. Thornburg was the one who called police, who arrived after midnight. WSBT-TV also reported that Woody has an extensive criminal history.

Police believe Woody knew the victims and that the incident was not random.

The Syracuse Police Department , the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and officers with the Indiana State Police are investigating.
