Southern Indiana communities mark 3rd anniversary of tornado

HENRYVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Residents of southern Indiana communities that were devastated by a deadly tornado three years ago are crediting community spirit for the area’s recovery.

The twister packing 170 mph winds struck the heart of Henryville on March 2, 2012, and carved a wide path of destruction in nearby communities including Marysville.

Shorn trees still mark the area, and some homes still need to be repaired or razed. But businesses have reopened, and a church where people took refuge in the basement has been rebuilt.

Carolyn King of the March2Recovery aid organization tells the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, that everyone pulled together to help rebuild the area.
