Indy public works crews monitor roads overnight for slick spots

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — With snow still on the ground from the weekend winter storm and then rain all day Tuesday, Indianapolis Department of Public Works crews plan to monitor conditions overnight to keep roads from refreezing.

“We’ll put salt on those locations where things tend to ice up: bridge decks, hilly areas, other areas where we know water tends to accumulate and potentially refreeze,” said DPW Spokesperson Scott Manning. “We’re going to address those as needed overnight to make sure the roads stay in good shape.”

Secondary streets remained covered in a thick layer of slush Tuesday afternoon in parts of the city as rainwater started to pool in places.

“It’s slick,” said Sharon Alexander who lives on the near north side. “If you’re not really careful, you’re going to (run into) somebody.”

“The main streets are okay but the side streets are bad,” said Montez Harrison.

Manning said private contractors were out for more than 24 hours Sunday and Monday to clear neighborhood streets. If your street has not been plowed, you are urged to call the Mayor’s Action Center at 317-327-4MAC.

“Let us know so we can follow up,” said Manning.
