City water to lose chlorine smell on March 16

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Monday, March 16, Indianapolis residents should notice the smell of chlorine fading from their water faucets.

According to Citizens Energy Group, they began using free chlorine to disinfect the water system in a routine cleaning of the system in February.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the public trust utility wanted to make sure that consumers knew that the water was still safe to drink while the system was being cleaned.

They also wanted to make Indianapolis residents aware that this common cleaning process has been in place for more than 20 years in the drinking water industry.
