Authorities: Dog found frozen outside Muncie home

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – Police say a dog died of starvation and hypothermia before it was found chained up outside a Muncie house.

The Star Press reports the dog was found frozen in an outdoor dog house last week when utility workers went to shut off power to the house. Police are trying to figure out who abandoned the dog.

Another pit bull found chained on the property has survived. Phil Peckinpaugh, superintendent at the Muncie Animal Shelter, says the dog was “terribly thin” but is now recovering at a foster home.

Peckinpaugh says the surviving dog, who shelter workers named Katniss, appears to be 7 to 8 years old and have no serious health concerns other than her weight.

He says people looking to adopt Katniss should contact the shelter.
