IndyCARES installing 60 AED’s around Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Wednesday crews installed life-saving equipment in the heart of downtown Indianapolis.

Indy Cardiac Arrest Registry and Education Service (IndyCARES) is the non-profit division of Indy EMS that was established in 2011.

EMS teams will install an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)  inside the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial on Monument Circle.

It is the eighth of 60 AED’s that will be placed around the community over the next three years thanks to a $150,000 a year grant.

If someone is having a heart attack, IndyCARES wants an AED to be nearby to help save their life.

IndyCARES held educational sessions on Wednesday, inside the memorial, to teach people how to use an AED.

Organizers say this training is critical. The CDC reported that 300,000 Americans would experience cardiac arrest while away from a hospital, and that only eight percent of those 300,000 were expected to survive.

IndyCARES hopes that by placing the defibrillators strategically around the circle city that those numbers will improve.
