Ball State’s football team wrapped up its Spring practice

Ball State’s football team wrapped up its Spring Practice with the annual scrimmage at Scheumann Stadium.

“Today’s scrimmage was an exciting finale to a productive spring season,” Ball State head coach Pete Lembo said.  “It was a full weekend of events for all the constituents of our football program.  We have a lot of work to do this summer and during preseason camp in preparation for the 2015 season.”

The format was an offense vs. defense scrimmage with special teams drills in between quarters.  On all fourth downs, the offense either punted or kicked a field goal.  There were for series per quarter and the scoring system was as follows:

The offense won by a 56-37 margin, and Ball State football alumni Tom Broderick and Kurt Humes served as honorary coaches for Coach Lembo.

Jack Milas, who started six games at quarterback for the Cardinals last season, completed 21-of-26 passes for 196 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.  Ozzie Mann, who also started six games at QB in 2014, completed 13-of-17 passes for 169 yards and one score.  David Morrison, a redshirt freshman, completed 1-of-4 passes for three yards.

Jordan Williams was the top receiver in the scrimmage with four catches for 98 yards and one TD.  Devin Reece managed one catch for 69 yards, while Corey Lacanaria had six receptions for 50 yards.  KeVonn Mabon had four catches for 34 yards and one score.

James Gilbert, a true freshman who started school at Ball State in January, had 11 rushes for 47 yards with one TD.  Spencer Gilbert, a redshirt freshman, had 10 carries for 35yards, while Teddy Williamson tallied 13 rushes for 34 yards and one TD.

Sean Wiggins led all defensive players with one solo tackle and eight assists.  Rontrell Peyton had eight total tackles with five solos and three assists.  Joshua Posley, a redshirt junior, managed seven tackles and a team-high three sacks.

Ball State will open the 2015 season Thursday, Sept. 3, vs. VMI at Scheumann Stadium.
