Family of missing pilot found dead thanks community for help

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The family of Glenn Foy, a 58-year-old pilot who was missing for a week and found dead in a plane crash Monday, thanked police and the media for their assistance.

The plane enthusiast from Indianapolis had been last seen April 5 flying his Soviet-era small aircraft. His body was found among the plane’s wreckage Monday in Boone County.

His family sent out the following note Saturday afternoon:

The family, friends and employees of formerly missing pilot Glenn Foy would like to thank the many organizations and individuals involved in his search-and-recovery operation, specifically the following: Det. Gerald of the Indpls. Metropolitan Police Dept.; Mike Nielsen and Chaplain Kim Orr of the Boone County Sheriff’s Dept.; Staff Sgt. Harrison of the Air Force Rescue Center; Matt Creed and Lt. Col. Tim Turner of the Civil Air Patrol; Mike Norris of the Airport Authority; Todd Chambers of the FAA; Aaron Sauer of the National Transportation Safety Board; Boone County Coroner Shon Hough; and friend and fellow pilot John Shuttleworth. All of these parties have been wonderfully professional, while maintaining an element of compassion for everyone involved, and our heartfelt thanks go out to them.

We would also like to thank the local news media for their role in getting out the request to the general public for help in locating Glenn. They managed to investigate leads and make inquiries regarding this difficult story without intruding on the private lives of family and employees, and we are grateful for their respectful conduct.
